Hope from Within
Dedication
Joaquin Mekhai Ramsey was born on December 13, 2002. Frank and Vicki Ramsey were taken by surprise when the doctors told them that there was a problem.
Joaquin was born with a genetic defect called trisomy 18 and Frank and Vicki were told to brace themselves, that
most babies born with this genetic disorder did not survive through the
first month of life. Joaquin had another plan, he decided he was going to be one
of the cases that would beat almost everything thrown at him. He
beat pneumonia and chronic respiratory syndrome one time and pneumonia another six times. He had
surgery for a hernia and a feeding tube and every single time the doctors
were amazed that this was a trisomy 18 baby. He recovered quickly
and complained little of the pain he was in. Pneumonia was the
cause for his passing on Jan 23, 2004. He was always a happy baby as this
picture shows, a joy for his parents to hold and have in their lives, It is in his memory
that Frank Ramsey started Kayenta Animal Control & Shelter to help ease
the sufferings of animals in our community that have been mistreated or
dumped like garbage, and also to provide the necessary job of animal
control for Kayenta Township. Frank also hopes that aggressive animals will be removed
from our community lowering the number of dog bites and danger to our
elderly, children and others in township boundaries.
